Telling it our way by Mary Cullen

Catriona Crowe’s (Times, 31 August 2013) reviews Mary Cullen’s book. Catriona points out that there are now a multitude of books on the history of Irish feminism, broader women’s history and gender history which is due to a number of pioneers who made it their business to begin the process of excavating sources, establishing academic courses, creating a relevant popular discourse and writing the early books, all of which have provided the foundations on which later work has been built.

Mary Cullen who I (Caroline) had the privilege of been taught by while completing an MA in women’s studies at UCC, is one such advocate.  While history is recorded by academics we must all play our part to research and share information on  women achievements from our locality.   I have no doubt there are many women whose stories have yet to be told.
